FALK-Cambridge
Students in Health Science
Course Prepare for Future
Careers
High school students at Falk-
Cambridge substitute their school
uniforms with medical scrubs as part
of the Health Science and Career
Development courses. The wearing of
blue medical scrubs on ‘exam’ Fridays
emphasizes and enlivens the importance
of the Health Science curriculum. Led
by veteran educators, Vicki Schlaerth
and Kelly Reppenhagen, the Health
Science course provides students with
the opportunities to explore a variety of
topics such as anatomy, physiology and
medical terminology, while the Career
Development course focuses on job
attainment and patient nursing care. The
goal of the Health Science and Career
Development Program is for students
to develop the knowledge, attitude and
skills needed to make the transition from
school to work within the Health Science
field.
FALK-DELAWARE
‘A Reading Oasis’ Materializes
at the Delaware Falk School
Reading is one of the most
important skills you can teach a child,
and it is vital to every child’s success.
The annual Scholastic Book Fair, held on
the evening of the Falk-Delaware Open
House, is an experience which celebrates
reading. This annual event provides
families the opportunity to get involved
and actively become the answer by
encouraging children to read. This year’s
theme; A Reading Oasis: A Cool Place
to Discover Hot Books, took students on
a journey back to Ancient Egypt. They
even had a special visit from a pharaoh
and a camel! Giving children, families
and teachers access to choose books at
affordable prices provides the opportunity
to motivate students to read more. For
the third year, Mrs. Rebecca Armstrong,
a teacher at Falk-Delaware, organized the
book fair.
FALK-ROSSLER
Stanley G. Falk School
Students Attend the 2013
WNY Construction Career
Days Event
Stanley G. Falk School students
from both the Rossler and Cambridge
sites were invited to the Operating
Engineers Training Facility in Lakeview,
NY for a day of hands-on learning during
the 2013 WNY Construction Career Days
Event. This annual event, sponsored
by the Construction Career Days
Committee, is a partnership of volunteers
working together for youth, industry
and community. The event offered local
high school students the opportunity to
experience various construction-related
skills, such as pouring cement, brick
laying, welding, and carpentry.
Students were selected based
on their interest in pursuing a career in
the construction fields and the results
of their recent ASVAB (Armed Services
Vocational Aptitude Battery) tests. This
outing offered our students a chance to
experience some of the important skills
that are required when pursuing a career
in the construction industry. As a school,
one of our greatest responsibilities is
to prepare our high school students for
post-secondary success. We must create
a stable pathway for students to improve
their prospects for obtaining gainful
employment.
